Derwentwise is a 5 year project to inspire people to care for the Lower Derwent Valley in Derbyshire.
We won a commission from them – the brief was: ’tie together DerwentWISE’s 60 projects under a linked identity to create a playful and engaging artwork that communicates the scale, scope, ambition and achievements of DerwentWISE’.
We decided to make a massive heart. It symbolises the valley as a living entity made of different elements which must all work together to be nourished and survive. It represents the love of place, landscape and community. It turned out a bit bonkers and a bit awesome! We are looking forward to seeing it pop up at events around Derby in the coming year.
Proud to be part of our local towns annual Lamp Lighter festival organised by leading carnival artists and puppeteers – Handmade Parade. Lamplighter is an extravaganza of awe-inspiring illuminated creations marking the start of the darkest months of the year. As well as the acclaimed large-scale lantern parade and mythical “Lamplighter” as a symbolic guide for the town and valley through the dark winter, this out of the ordinary festival features an exciting programme of top music, street theatre and installations.
Sowerby Bridge’s Winterlight Festival is a feast of sights and sounds created by a group of artists, musicians and technicians from across the community who have sought to create an outdoor vision of the true future heart of the town. This year we created a mesmerising installation in the old Fire Station. People could come inside and watch our magical illuminated lotus flower slowly opening and closing.
